Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the event," they added.
City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the vandalism left him stunned and required to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
