Jon Ruben pleaded guilty to 17 offences at the judicial center on Friday

An individual who contaminated treats with sedative and distributed them to youngsters at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two boys both nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight children and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Yet, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a subsequent court date on late November.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the court.

She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he managed.

The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She stated the man had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.

"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor explained materials including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild notified the police about his concerns.

She explained the man proceeded to play the "sweet game" with six youngsters that evening - that Saturday - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The legal representative stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the family member notified the law enforcement a second time.

She stated Ruben then engaged in the "candy game" in a area of five youngsters.
