Ten sentenced of digital abuse directed at Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has found guilty ten people for carrying out the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the partner of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

The defendants faced charges of circulating fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing hurtful comments about the couple's significant age difference.

The court handed down suspended jail terms of a maximum of eight months to the convicted individuals. The complete verdict has yet to be released.

A longstanding false narrative suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's initial election in 2017.

This latest legal outcome in France is concurrent with the Macrons initiating a legal action for defamation in the US against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced similar conspiracy theories about the French president's wife's identity.

Their complaint alleges that Owens ignored substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions choosing instead to give a platform to established defamers.

Owens has often echoed these assertions on her show and social networks, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.

Brigitte Macron initially encountered her now-husband when she taught at his high school.

The two tied the knot in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
