In a recent interview in London, Oscar-nominee Timothée Chalamet set about naming his choices of five legendary Britons.

"Hamilton, David and Victoria," he stated, mentioning the seven-time Formula One champion and the celebrity couple.

His list veered into an unconventional turn with the mention of London-based rapper Fakemink, prompting questions about a speculated collaboration with anonymous Liverpool artist EsDeeKid. On this topic, Chalamet simply replied, "I can't say."

Chalamet listed the newly knighted Sir David and Victoria Beckham as two of his five British greats.

Yet, it was his last choice that emerged utterly unexpectedly. After a long pause, he revealed: "Susan Boyle."

Apparently, one of the most prominent movie stars on the planet is a open admirer of the Scottish former Britain's Got Talent sensation, who went on to two US number one albums.

"She dreamt bigger than all of us," he stated totally free of irony. "Everyone was touched by that?" he said, referencing the 2009 viral clip of Boyle performing I Dreamed A Dream.

The Promotion Behind the List

The purpose for naming these great Britons relates to a unique promotional effort for his upcoming 1950s table tennis film, Marty Supreme.

For the last few weeks, Chalamet has been giving embroidered jackets bearing the film's title to personalities he deems to be "inspiring."

Recipients so far have featured swimmer Michael Phelps, NFL icon Tom Brady, and soccer prodigy Lamine Yamal.

On His Craft

In Marty Supreme, Chalamet portrays Marty Mauser, a loosely-based version of real-life post-war star Marty Reisman. The character exhibits questionable ethics, planning a heist and disrupting a marriage.

"You know, when you're in your youth, you're an fool," he laughed. "This movie, in large part, is about that foolishness in your young adulthood."

His captivating performance has already secured best actor nominations at the major awards, leading to a potential Oscar contest with Leonardo DiCaprio.

Pursuit of Greatness

Chalamet's self-assurance was clear earlier this year when, while collecting a SAG Award, he proclaimed his pursuit of legendary status, citing inspirations like Daniel Day-Lewis and Viola Davis.

When asked about the source of this confidence, he reflected: "You know, it varies. And I feel like that's what drives me on my toes... It's a never-ending process."

Looking Back

With his 30th birthday, Chalamet looks back on a decade that included blockbuster roles in films like Dune and Wonka.

"It's been amazing. I feel like I'm living in a dream," he remarked with a huge smile.

His commitment is intense: five years of guitar for A Complete Unknown, and years of training of table tennis for his current film.

"I think the duty... is that it feels genuine on screen," he explained.

Belief in Theatres

At a time when digital platforms are consolidating the industry, Marty Supreme is an cinematic story receiving a theatrical release.

"I do think cinemas will persist," Chalamet mused. "The goal... is... to take this traditional form and deliver it to people."

He is confident that films like his can contribute to saving the cinema experience.

"We have an original film at a time where a lot of original films aren't made... I've never been more sure in saying, 'Hey, if you come to see this movie, you won't be let down.'"

Nearing 30, Timothée Chalamet appears more than ready to embody the example of his unexpected pick, Susan Boyle, and aim for greatness.

Marty Supreme is hitting cinemas on Boxing Day.
